There are hundreds of young adult dystopian novels available. They range in both quality and suitability. The featured novels are a small sampling of novels that could be used in helping students develop their critical literacy skills but the list is by no means inclusive.
Please remember, the age guidelines are approximate. Every student is different. Every class is different. Teachers need to read every novel first before bringing it in the classroom. The student’s maturity level should be considered as well as the book’s subject matter. Some novels may be better suited for independent reading than classroom reading.
